Everyone loves a story and even though nursing is busy business I get to hear about some amazing adventures from my patients. I have heard incredible stories of Mussolini trying to escape out of Italy through small Italian villages. A man being smuggled from Syria to Vietnam encountering the Khmer Rouge on his way through. And, what it was really like for a migrant building the railways in central Australia.
Every decade is different and hearing how people lived and survived during these times, even if they don’t have tales like these to tell always fascinates me. It’s one of my favourite parts of nursing.
